The Roman Baths
Located in the heart of Georgian Bath, the Roman Baths is one of the finest spas of the ancient world. It was here that Romans came to bathe and worship at the site of the natural thermal springs that still flow today.
Visitors can walk on ancient Roman pavements around the Great Bath at the heart of the ancient site. Projections bring the neighbouring East and West Baths, and Roman Gym to life showing how the Romans once relaxed and exercised. The museum collection, located next to the bathing complex, includes the ruins of the Temple of Sulis Minerva and a gilt bronze head of the goddess. The remains of the Temple Pediment, with the Gorgon's head at its centrepiece, is brought to life with a modern projection. Other artefacts include the Beau Street Hoard collection of 14,000 coins and the Curse Tablets, once thrown into the Sacred Spring asking the goddess for revenge.
Complimentary audioguides in 12 languages bring the site to life. Costumed characters around the Great Bath show how Romans would have lived and worked. During the summer months the Roman Baths stays open until 10pm, allowing visitors to experience something truly magical as daylight fades and flickering torches are lit. The magnificent Pump Room Restaurant serves coffee, lunch and afternoon tea accompanied by live music.
